New Lexus NX unveiled with updated hybrid system and refreshed design

Lexus has unveiled an extensively updated NX, bringing revised styling, a redesigned interior and the brand’s sixth-generation hybrid technology to its midsize SUV.
The updated NX will be offered with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with the NX 450h+ gaining a larger battery, more than 100 km of electric driving range and DC fast-charging capability. The model is scheduled to roll out across global markets from the end of 2026, with European sales planned from early 2027.
Refreshed exterior design
The NX retains its familiar proportions but receives a number of styling changes. The front now features a frameless spindle grille integrated more closely into the bodywork, while new all-weather headlamps combine Adaptive High-beam System and cornering lights.
At the rear, a redesigned light signature incorporates an illuminated Lexus logo. Chrome exterior details have also been replaced by darker finishes, while new 18- and 20-inch alloy wheel designs are available depending on specification.
The F SPORT models receive additional styling changes, including piano-black exterior elements, 20-inch twin-spoke wheels, red brake callipers and revised aerodynamic detailing.
Redesigned interior
Inside, Lexus has redesigned the dashboard around a more horizontal layout. The new cabin features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch LexusConnect multimedia display, positioned along the same visual axis.

The new NX also introduces Lexus’ Responsive Hidden Switches, which remain concealed within the dashboard until needed and provide physical feedback when operated.
Another new feature is the Sensory Concierge, which coordinates cabin lighting, sound, climate control, seat temperature and fragrance. Three experience modes are available: Inspire, Radiance and Revitalise.
Sixth-generation hybrid technology
Both the NX 350h self-charging hybrid and NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid adopt Lexus’ sixth-generation hybrid technology.
The updated system integrates the power control unit and transaxle into a more compact assembly, reducing weight and helping lower the vehicle’s centre of gravity. Lexus has also introduced silicon-carbide semiconductors in the inverter to reduce electrical losses and improve efficiency.
The NX 450h+ receives the more significant powertrain changes, with its lithium-ion battery growing from 18 kWh to 23 kWh. System output increases to 229 DIN kW, while the 0-100 km/h sprint takes a claimed 6.1 seconds.
Electric driving range is expected to exceed 100 km on the WLTP cycle, although Lexus notes that this remains a provisional figure ahead of homologation.
The NX 450h+ also becomes the first Lexus plug-in hybrid to offer DC fast charging. A 10-80% charge is expected to take around 30 minutes.

More equipment and safety technology
Lexus Safety System+ active safety and driver assistance systems are standard across the NX range.
The updated model also gains new connected services covering convenience, safety, entertainment and vehicle security.
Depending on specification, customers can choose from Business, Executive, Luxury and F SPORT grades. Higher-specification models add features such as a head-up display, 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor, heated rear seats, automatic parking and the Sensory Concierge system.
The NX 450h+ also gains a 1,500 W AC outlet, allowing the vehicle to function as a mobile power source.
Improved driving dynamics
Lexus has made several changes aimed at improving the NX’s driving characteristics, including revisions to the suspension, braking and all-wheel-drive systems.
The body has also been strengthened, while changes to the driving position, aerodynamics and noise insulation are intended to improve comfort, control and refinement.
Both the NX 350h and NX 450h+ now have a 1,500 kg towing capacity.
Lexus says the updated NX will be introduced in Europe from early spring 2027, with pre-sales starting in autumn 2026. South African specifications and launch timing have not been confirmed in the information provided.
