The current generation Ford Ranger is on its way out with the all-new Ranger having been revealed recently. The new generation Ranger means there will also be a new Ranger Raptor and the Ranger Raptor SE is most likely the last hoorah.

    Looks

The Ford Ranger Raptor Special Edition model adds model specific enhancements, interior updates and a standard roller shutter to the Ranger Raptor. Outside, features include racing stripes (bonnet, roof, lower body sides, rear wings and tailgate), red finished front tow hooks, and matte black coated flared wheel arches, front and rear bumpers, door handles and grille. It’s also fitted with a Wildtrak and Thunder sourced black sports hoop, and lockable Mountain Top black roller shutter.

    Power

    Power is unchanged and comes from Ford’s 157 kW/ 500 Nm 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine that’s paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

    Launch impressions

The Ford Ranger Raptor Special Edition is probably the last hoorah of the current Ranger generation. Notwithstanding being on its way out, the looks hit all the right notes and the bakkie’s exaggerated size does wonders for the ego. Importantly, it’s practical and the suspension set-up is a boon both on and off-road resulting in a very rewarding drive, 6 hours into it at launch, we could easily do a couple more hours. The beast is thirsty consuming over 10L/100km but that is fine considering the power and capability.

    Pricing

    Prices start from R965,300.
