Kia’s onslaught of all-electric SUVs continues with the EV5 which was recently revealed by the Chinese regulator under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) which publishes a list of vehicles that completed their homologation process monthly. The bold-looking electric SUV is slotted beneath the larger EV9 which was unveiled to the world a few months ago.

Bold design

Like Kia’s latest EV models, the EV5 boasts a bold futuristic look which is heavily inspired by its concept version unveiled back in March and probably based on the automaker’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. According to our source, the EV5’s exterior dimensions are as follows: 4 615 length, 1 875 width and 1 715mm height and has a wheelbase of 2 750mm, making it 65mm lower, 105mm less wider and 400mm shorter than the EV9.

Performance

According to a report by Korean Car Blog, the Chinese version of the Kia EV5 will be powered by an 82 kWh LFP battery pack which is sourced from automaker and battery producer BYD. Its electric motor is said to develop a healthy 160 kW and 310Nm. Its top speed is said to be capped at 185 km/h and weighs as much as 1 870 kg.
