Have you had your eye on the menacing new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe, but you don’t want one with its mighty 4.0-litre V8? Well, the engineers at Mercedes-AMG have prepared a leaner dish. Meet the all-new AMG GT 43 Coupe.

Heart of the A 45S AMG

The GT 43 Coupe is powered by a donor M139 engine from the baby A 45S and C 43 AMGs. This turbocharged 2.0-litre powerplant also generates an impressive 310kW at 6,750 rpm and 500Nm between 3,250 rpm and 5,000 rpm. Thanks to a 48-volt on-board electrical system, which also feeds the belt-driven starter generator, the GT 43 Coupe briefly delivers an additional boost of 10 kW.

New to the GT 43 Coupe is an electric exhaust gas turbocharger, a technology from Formula 1. According to Mercedes-AMG, this  form of charging guarantees particularly spontaneous responses across the entire speed range. The engine is paired with an AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission (MCT = Multi-Clutch Transmission), a wet starting clutch replaces the torque converter. The benefits of the latter setup is weight reduction and throttle input optimisation when sprinting and changing loads.

    More performance highlights

Other noteworthy performance highlights include AMG high-performance perforated composite brake system measuring 390 x 36 mm with six-piston fixed callipers at the front axle and 360 x 26 mm with single-piston floating callipers at the rear axle, an optional rear axle steering up to 100km/h, and six driving modes to name a few.

    Availability

Mercedes-Benz South Africa is yet to announce the local ETA and pricing of the new Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupe.
