BMW M unleashes new 390 kW M2 CS

BMW’s M division has once again sharpened its smallest blade, unveiling the highly anticipated G87 BMW M2 CS. As a more focused and limited-run version of the standard M2, the CS (Competition Sport) model is set to hit South African shores with track-ready aggression, daily usability, and unmistakable M heritage.

    Compact Muscle

Visually, the G87 M2 CS takes the bold styling of the standard G87 and dials it up a notch. Exterior highlights include wider fenders, an aggressive front splitter in matte black, CS-specific kidney grille with optimised air inlets, adaptive LED headlights, staggered lightweight alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, and a CFRP ducktail-style rear spoiler instantly distinguish it from the regular M2.

    Carbon-fibre and Alcantara Dominates

Inside, the M2 CS blends hardcore performance with BMW’s modern luxury. Expect Alcantara-trimmed surfaces, CS-specific branding and contrast stitching, and lightweight M Carbon bucket seats that hug the driver and passenger through every corner. The rear seats remain, keeping some practicality intact. The M-specific digital cluster and iDrive 8.5 infotainment system provide a high-tech cabin, while carbon fibre trim on the centre console and door panels reinforces the motorsport vibe.

More power, more torque, less weight

Under the sculpted bonnet lies the same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six (codenamed S58) found in the current M3 and M4. It delivers 390kW/650Nm and power is sent to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic.

BMW M also revised suspension setup, upgraded cooling systems, and fitted lighter components help the M2 CS achieve a weight loss of 30 kg. BMW claims 0–100 km/h is achieved in under 3.8 seconds, with a top speed approaching 302 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package.

    Advanced driver assistance features

Semi-automated driving and parking systems fitted as standard include front collision warning, Cruise Control with brake function, Speed Limit Info function with no-overtaking indicator, Lane Departure Warning, and the Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant. Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and the Driving Assistant can be added as optional equipment.

    Availability

According to BMW South Africa, the new M2 CS will be available in South Africa from the second quarter of 2026.
