BMW has pulled the wraps off the all-new iX3, the first-ever production model from its revolutionary Neue Klasse lineup. This SUV doesn’t just represent another electric vehicle – it’s the beginning of a new chapter for the Bavarian marque, blending cutting-edge electric performance, futuristic design, and everyday practicality.
Neue Klasse history
The “Neue Klasse” name is legendary in BMW’s history books. Back in the 1960s, Neue Klasse models like the 1500 and 2002 helped rescue BMW from financial turmoil and laid the foundation for the brand’s sporty, premium DNA. Fast forward to today, the Neue Klasse is being reborn for the electric age. The iX3 is the very first of six new fully electric models BMW plans to launch in the coming years under this banner, and it’s designed to set the tone for what’s to come.

Exterior design, styling and dimmensions
The new iX3 debuts BMW’s evolved design philosophy – bold, modern, and unmistakably premium. Up front, you’ll find a futuristic interpretation of the kidney grille, framed by slim and animated LED headlights with a unique double-element signature. The SUV’s muscular stance, clean surfacing, and coupe-like proportions create a dynamic silhouette, while the rear is finished off with sharp LED taillights and a sculpted bumper. It’s every bit a BMW, but re-imagined for the EV era.
A choice of six exterior colours will be offered for the new BMW iX3 from launch – comprising one solid and five metallic finishes. Among them are the striking Polarized Grey metallic and Ocean Wave Blue metallic, introduced for the first time and available exclusively for the fully electric SAV. In spring 2026, the line-up will be expanded with three additional metallic paint options.
The BMW iX3 measures 4,782 millimetres in length, 1,895 millimetres wide and 1,635 millimetres tall. It has a 2,897- millimetre wheelbase and track widths of 1,628 millimetres at the front axle and 1,633 millimetres at the rear.

Interior design, technology and space
Inside, the iX3 feels like stepping into the future. The cabin showcases the next-gen BMW Curved Display with a panoramic infotainment screen stretching across the dashboard, supported by the brand’s latest iDrive 10 interface. Sustainable materials, tactile surfaces, and minimalist design cues bring both luxury and eco-consciousness together. BMW also highlights a floating center console and ambient lighting for a premium yet futuristic vibe.
The load compartment capacity of the new BMW iX3 can be increased from 520 to a maximum 1,750 litres by folding down the rear seat backrest elements as required. The additional storage compartment under the bonnet can hold another 58 litres of cargo. Customers needing additional transportation capacity can specify their car with the optional electric fold-in/fold-out trailer tow hitch. The maximum trailer load of the new BMW iX3 50 xDrive is 2,000 kilograms.
Safety features
BMW has always taken safety seriously, and the iX3 is no exception. Advanced active safety systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and collision mitigation. The SUV’s structure also benefits from the rigidity and crash-optimized design of the Neue Klasse platform, ensuring maximum protection for all occupants.

Performance and charging
The BMW iX3 50 xDrive debuts with sixth-generation eDrive technology, combining a rear EESM motor and front ASM motor for a total output of 345 kW and 645 Nm of torque. It sprints from 0–100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 210 km/h.
A new high-voltage battery with cylindrical cells offers 108.7 kWh usable capacity, enabling a range of up to 805 km (WLTP). Energy density improves by 20%, charging speed by 30%, and overall system efficiency cuts energy losses by 40% compared to fifth-gen eDrive.
Charging performance is equally impressive:
- 800V DC fast charging up to 400 kW, adding 372 km in 10 minutes, or charging 10–80% in 21 minutes.
- AC charging at 11 kW (standard) or 22 kW (optional).
This makes the iX3 one of the most efficient, powerful and long-range electric SUVs in its segment.

Availability
The market launch of the new BMW iX3 will get underway in Europe in spring 2026 and in South Africa in the third quarter of 2026. Also starting in 2026 will be deliveries of a variant of the new BMW iX3 produced at the Shenyang facility that has been tailored specifically to the needs and desires of customers in China.
