Renault has updated the Kiger Turbo for 2026, giving its compact crossover a handful of styling tweaks and a longer list of standard features. While the changes are not revolutionary, they focus on areas that matter most to buyers in this segment.

We recently spent time with the updated Kiger in the Cape Winelands to see whether the additions improve what was already a competitive package. The visual changes are subtle but welcome.

The facelifted Kiger gains follow-me-home headlamps, a new side scuttle featuring “Turbo” badging, and a fresh set of 16-inch Evasion alloy wheels. While the overall silhouette remains unchanged, some of the design cues now bring it closer to newer Renault products such as the latest Duster and updated Triber.

The Kiger has always been one of the more stylish offerings in the compact SUV segment, and these updates help keep it looking fresh.

Inside, Renault has focused on improving comfort and convenience.

The updated Kiger now features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated front seats, a wireless charging pad, remote engine start, and dual-tone leather upholstery.

Of all the additions, the ventilated seats stood out the most during our launch drive, proving particularly useful under the Cape Town sun.

The cabin still makes extensive use of hard plastics, which is understandable at this price point. However, the piano black trim on the centre console feels unnecessary, as it is likely to attract scratches and fingerprints over time.

Practicality remains one of the Kiger’s strengths. With 405 litres of boot space, it offers enough room for grocery runs, family duties, and weekend getaways.

Power comes from a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine producing 74kW and 160Nm. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual transmission or an X-Tronic CVT.

The turbocharged engine remains the pick of the range, feeling noticeably more responsive than the naturally aspirated alternative. The X-Tronic CVT also performs well, simulating gear changes to create a more natural driving experience.

During our drive back to the airport with four adults and luggage onboard, the Kiger handled the additional weight impressively and never felt overwhelmed.

Verdict

Based on our first drive, the updates have improved the Kiger without changing its core formula.

The styling tweaks keep it looking current, the additional equipment adds genuine value, and the turbocharged engine continues to offer adequate performance for everyday driving.

Starting at R278,999, the Renault Kiger Turbo remains one of the more compelling value-focused compact SUVs on the market.
