Following its first public appearance at NAMPO and a subsequent unveiling at the Toyota Matsuri held at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, Toyota has officially confirmed the launch of the sixth-generation RAV4 in South Africa.

The new RAV4 enters a highly competitive midsize SUV segment that includes rivals such as the Subaru Forester, Hyundai Tucson, and Ford Territory.

While the sixth-generation model adopts a fresh design, it continues to use a heavily revised version of Toyota’s TNGA platform. The SUV measures 4,600mm in length, 1,855mm in width, and 1,695mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,690mm and ground clearance of 201mm.

At the front, the RAV4 features a new hexagonal grille, slim LED headlamps, and C-shaped daytime running lights. Along the sides, angular character lines define the profile, while the rear is distinguished by a full-width light bar and prominent RAV4 lettering.

Specification varies depending on the model grade. GX and VX derivatives are fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels, while the VX also adds adaptive LED headlamps, an electrically operated tailgate, and a panoramic sunroof.

The GR Sport derivative features a 20mm wider track, 20-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, and GR-specific styling elements.

Exterior colour options include Pearl White, Glacier White, Chromium Silver, Graphite Grey, Caribbean Blue, Cinnabar Red, Urban Khaki, and Moonlight Ocean Metallic.

Inside, the RAV4 features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, while GX models receive a 10.5-inch unit. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless charging, and voice control are also included.

Safety equipment includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Vehicle Stability Control. Additional features include Parking Support and a Panoramic View Monitor with 3D functionality on all derivatives except the GX.

    Pricing

    RAV4 2.5 HEV GX – R770,500

    RAV4 2.0 VX – R799,900

    RAV4 2.5 HEV VX – R927,800

    RAV4 2.5 HEV GR-S – R941,800

    RAV4 2.5 PHEV – R1,043,900

The RAV4 is sold with a 3-year/100,000km warranty and a 6-year/90,000km service plan. Hybrid models also benefit from an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty.
