Toyota South Africa Motors recorded 13,814 vehicle sales in August, securing a 23.9% share of the local new-vehicle market.

The result was supported by strong performances across Toyota’s passenger, SUV and commercial vehicle ranges, with the Hilux once again retaining its position as South Africa’s best-selling vehicle.

The popular bakkie recorded 3,881 sales during August, while Toyota maintained its leadership in the light commercial vehicle segment with 5,106 units sold and a 37.1% market share. The Hilux was supported by the Land Cruiser 79 and Hiace.

    Strong passenger car performance

Toyota’s passenger and crossover range also made a significant contribution to the brand’s August sales.

The Corolla Cross recorded 1,489 units, followed by the Starlet with 1,359 sales and the Starlet Cross with 1,015 units. The Vitz and Urban Cruiser each contributed 871 sales.

The figures highlight Toyota’s continued presence across South Africa’s key volume segments, ranging from small hatchbacks to compact crossovers and SUVs.

Land Cruiser family adds further volume

The Land Cruiser range also contributed to Toyota’s overall performance.

The Land Cruiser 79 Pick-Up recorded 434 units, followed by the Land Cruiser FJ with 255 sales. The Prado and Land Cruiser 300 each recorded 241 units, while the Land Cruiser 76 Station Wagon added 33 sales.

Lexus contributed a further 105 vehicles to the group’s August total, led by the NX with 37 units, followed by the GX with 29 and the LX with 27.

Toyota’s August performance reflects the breadth of its local portfolio, with contributions coming from its small-car, crossover, SUV, bakkie and commercial vehicle ranges.

The Hilux, however, remained the standout performer, continuing its run as South Africa’s best-selling vehicle.
