Mercedes-AMG unveiled the refreshed AMG GT 53 and 43 4-door. The four-door coupe sports car gets more comfort and sportiness thanks to the new adjustable damping with two valves, a set of new wheels, new colours, a wider choice of interior trims and a new AMG Performance steering wheel.

    Exterior design

The fast four-door coupe misses out on extensive exterior restyling, however, customers can opt for the new AMG Night Package II which adds dark chrome to the AMG specific grille and black finished AMG logo, Mercedes star, model designation, and lettering on the front wings. There are three new exterior colours for all models, namely spectral blue metallic, spectral blue magno (matt finish) and cashmere white magno (matt finish). A total of five matt finishes, five metallic shades and two solid colours are now available.

Customers now have an even wider choice of AMG wheels. These include new 20-inch light-alloy wheels in a 10-twin-spoke design or intricately designed and sporty 21-inch forged wheels in a 5-twin-spoke design. Upon request, red-painted brake callipers can now also be ordered for the 6-cylinder models.

    Interior design

Moving inside, customers of the 53 and 43 models can opt for the new combination of Exclusive nappa leather in titanium grey pearl/black with contrasting topstitching in yellow, or fine Exclusive nappa leather in truffle brown/black in the STYLE finish (diamond stitching). In addition to the popular two-tone seats, five further colours in Exclusive nappa leather STYLE expand the interior portfolio: sienna brown, classic red, yacht blue, deep white and neva grey.

The updated models also feature the newly designed AMG Performance flat-bottom steering wheel with optional heating.

Edition model with extensive equipment package

Customers who want exclusivity and individuality can opt for the Edition model which features exclusive paintwork in the dark gemstone shade of rubellite red shows a self-assured extravagance that harmonises perfectly with the Exterior Package in high-gloss chrome and the new, 21-inch AMG forged wheels in a 5-twin-spoke design, painted silver and with a high-gloss finish. The standard light-show setting rounds off the lifestyle character of the exterior.

Still on the inside, there’s a new neva grey Exclusive nappa leather trim, neva grey/black nappa leather to match on the AMG Performance steering wheel is finished in new open-pore wood trim in grey ash, the door sill panels illuminated in the vehicle colour and the AMG Edition badge on the instrument panel underscore the luxurious overall impression.

    Power and performance

Powering the models is a 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder engine delivering 270 kW/500 Nm in the 43 and 320 KW/520Nm in the 53 models. Both are fitted with a power starter-generator which adds an additional power of (16 kW) and torque of (250 Nm). The 43 and 53 models are able to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 and 4.5 seconds respectively thanks to the 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system with fully variable torque distribution and the 9-speed automatic transmission. The top speed of the 43 model is 270 km/h and 285 km/h for the 53 model.

The reconfigured AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension continues to be based on a multi-chamber air suspension system, combined with adaptive, electronically controlled adjustable damping. This damping system is completely new: for the first time, two so-called pressure limiting valves are used. These continuously variable control valves, located outside the damper, allow the damping force to be adjusted even more precisely to different driving conditions and drive programs: one valve controls the rebound damping, i.e. the force that occurs when the wheel rebounds, and the other controls the compression damping when the wheel compresses. The rebound and compression stages are controlled independently of each other. This technology makes it possible to increase comfort on the one hand, but on the other also to make the driving dynamics even sportier.
