Today Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) added a new RAV4 2.5 CVT GX hybrid derivate to the current generation Toyota RAV4 range. The Japanese automaker is targeting consumers who want a comfortable, practical, reliable and fuel-efficient that won’t break the bank. This is also true with the newly launched Corolla Xs CVT Hybrid is priced from R419,900.

    Hybrid powertrain

The new hybrid RAV4 is powered by a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine shared with Lexus stablemates like the NX 300h. Together with the electric motor, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has a total output of 160 kW and 202 Nm. It’s paired to a CVT transmission and has a top speed of 200 km/h.

The Hybrid pays dividends at the fuel pump too, as the model’s fuel consumption index is listed at mere 4.7 l/100 km with CO2 emissions registering 107 g/km. A remarkable consumption figure for a 5-seater SUV.

    GX grade

To help make the new RAV4 Hybrid attainable it’s only available in one grade – GX trim – which strikes a balance between core convenience spec, value for money and luxury convenience. The RAV4 Hybrid boasts daytime running lights (DRLs), angular LED headlights, LED tail lights and a choice of 7 exterior body colours to choose from.

The RAV4 Hybrid rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with 225-65-R17 rubber joined by a full-size spare wheel. Roof rails, a rear spoiler, blue Toyota insignia, Hybrid badging and mud guards also form part of the standard repertoire.

    Interior

Inside, the RAV4 Hybrid gets dual-zone climate control, three 12-volt power outlets, 3 X USB ports, an infotainment system featuring Android Auto and Apple and multiple cup holders. Driver convenience is boosted by the fitment of Cruise Control, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, multi-information display and a tilt & telescopic steering wheel finished in leather and incorporating steering switches.

    Pricing

The RAV4 GX Hybrid CVT is priced at R555,300 and comes with the automaker’s  six-services or 90,000 km service plan, Toyota’s standard 3-year/100,000 km warranty and an 8-year / 195,000 km Hybrid battery warranty.
