Smart goes fully-electric

After a numerous spy-shots and speculations surfaced on the internet for the past few months, Smart has finally unveiled their all-new electric vehicle dubbed the Smart #1. The Crossover SUV is jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and Chinese automaker Geely.

Exterior and interior
The quirky-looking Smart #1 feature elements such as concealed electric door handles, frameless doors, a floating halo roof and 19-inch aero wheels. It’s 4270mm in length, 1822mm wide, 1636mm high and has a wheelbase of 2750mm. The Smart #1’s interior is modern, minimalist and uncluttered and features a few Mercedes-Benz design cues. Highlights include a 12.8-inch touch display featuring an infotainment with OTA updates, a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting and a flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel.

Performance
The all-electric Smart #1 is powered by a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle. It produces 200kW/343Nm. It has a top speed of 180km/h and a claimed WLTP electric driving range between 420 and 440km thanks to a 66kWh battery operating at 400 volts. It has a maximum charging capacity of 150kW DC and is said to be capable of AC charging from 10-80 % with 22kW in 3 hours. With DC super-fast charging this can be accomplished in under 30 minutes. Production of the Smart #1 will take place at Xian, China.
