GAC Motor enters large luxury SUV segment with all-new S7

GAC Motor recently took the veils off  the all-new S7 at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show. The newcomer is a fully-electric mid-to-large size luxury SUV that marks GAC’s transition to a new era of new energy vehicles.

    Ranger Rover-esque exterior design

Outside, the design language of the new S7 blends sophistication, modernity and boldness. Highlights up front include AI Emotion Headlights with 2 248 LEDs, an integrated LED daytime running light strip called “Skyline Intelligent Light Band”. The latter stretches 2 618 mm and is said to be the longest in its class.

In profile, the 4.9 meters long S7 boasts a clean and minimalist design which reminds us of Land Rover’s flagship Range Rover SUV. It features flush (pop-out) door handles, flared haunches all-round, integrated cameras on the front fenders and a set of 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped with all-terrain tyres.

Minimalism has been carried over to the rear where you get the brand’s Polar Light Intelligent Taillights with a design that almost looks like a carbon copy of the Volvo EX90’s taillights. As mentioned above, the S7 measures 4.9 meters in length, it has a height of 1.8 meters and boasts a ground clearance of 200 millimeters.

    Interior

The design, styling and technology of the five-seater S7 remains a mystery as there’s no details nor are there any images of its cabin.

    Powertrains and safety

GAC Motor is yet to share full details of the S7’s powertrain options. That said, we should expect a plug-in hybrid powertrain and an all-electric S7. Interestingly, like the Volvo EX90 once more, the S7 has a roof mounted scoop-like panel which houses LiDAR technology meaning the S7 will most likely be one of the safest SUVs on the road.
