A new electric SUV brand is heading to South Africa. The iCAUR V23, from the Chery Group’s adventure-focused EV division, is scheduled to launch locally in May 2026.

The V23 will be the brand’s first model in the South African market and introduces a different design approach to the electric SUV segment. With squared-off proportions and retro-inspired styling, the V23 blends nostalgic design elements with modern electric technology.

Two versions will be available at launch: a rear-wheel drive V23 2WD and an all-wheel drive V23 AWD.

The 2WD model is powered by a single electric motor paired with a 60 kWh battery. The AWD version features a larger 82 kWh battery and a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup. Combined output is expected to reach up to 155 kW and 292 Nm, although full performance and range figures will be confirmed closer to the vehicle’s launch.

Charging capability is also part of the package. When connected to a DC fast charger, the 2WD can charge from 20% to 80% in around 36 minutes, while the AWD model takes just over 40 minutes.

Underneath, the V23 uses disc brakes on all four wheels, with ventilated discs at the front. Suspension consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link rear setup. The 2WD rides on 19-inch wheels, while the AWD version receives larger 21-inch wheels.

Inside, the V23 comes with a fairly generous standard specification. Both models feature leather upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats, a seven-speaker sound system and a 15.4-inch central touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Buyers will also be able to choose from three interior colour options.

Safety features include six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, electronic stability control and traction control. The AWD model adds additional driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and forward collision warning. The 2WD version includes cruise control and a reverse camera.

More information, including final specifications and local pricing, is expected to be announced closer to the V23’s official arrival in South Africa in May 2026.
