Ford South Africa has updated its Ranger line-up for 2026, bringing in new models, expanding engine options and refining how the range is structured.
The Ranger has remained one of South Africa’s best-selling bakkies, and this latest update focuses on building on that success rather than changing the formula entirely. The emphasis here is on giving buyers more choice, whether that’s in terms of performance, capability or everyday usability.
One of the biggest changes is the introduction of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, now available in the Ranger for the first time locally. Producing 222kW and 452Nm, it offers a more refined and responsive alternative for buyers who spend most of their time on tar. It also adds a new dimension to the Ranger line-up, which has traditionally been dominated by diesel options.
At the same time, Ford has expanded the availability of its 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine. Previously limited to a few flagship models, the V6 is now offered in additional variants, including the Wildtrak Super Cab 4×4 and the Ranger Tremor Double Cab 4×4. This move gives more buyers access to its strong torque delivery and towing capability, especially for those who regularly travel long distances or tow heavy loads.

A new Ranger Sport model has also been introduced, positioned between the XLT and Wildtrak. It’s aimed at buyers who want something a bit more distinctive without stepping all the way up to the higher-end derivatives. Available in both Super Cab and Double Cab configurations, it can be specified with either the EcoBoost petrol engine in 4×2 form or the V6 diesel in 4×4.
Lower down in the range, the XLT continues to play a key role as a balanced option for both business and private buyers, while the XL range has been streamlined to focus more clearly on work and fleet use. These models retain the updated 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, which now benefits from improvements aimed at long-term durability.

Another key update across the line-up is the wider use of Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission, now standard on all automatic derivatives. This helps improve refinement, especially when towing or driving in stop-start traffic.
At the top end, the Ranger Platinum and Ranger Raptor continue to anchor the range. The Platinum focuses on comfort and refinement with the V6 diesel, while the Raptor remains the performance flagship, powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol engine.
