    People on the move: Volkswagen Group Africa appoints Dr Lungile Mashele as Non-Executive Director

    Volkswagen Group Africa has appointed Dr Lungile Mashele as a Non-Executive Director to its Board of Management, effective from 1 May 2026.

    Dr Mashele is an energy economist with more than 15 years of experience across the African energy sector, including renewable energy, gas, coal, nuclear and hydro projects. She currently serves as an advisor to the Minister of Energy and Electricity, a non-executive director at the National Transmission Company of South Africa, and an Energy and Infrastructure Specialist at the Public Investment Corporation.

    Her academic background includes a B.Com in Economics and Econometrics, a Master’s degree in Energy Studies, and a Ph.D. in Engineering Management.

    Dr Mashele joins Yolanda Cuba as the second active non-executive director on VWGA’s Board.

    Martina Biene said sustainability remains a key focus for the company, adding that Dr Mashele’s experience and insight will bring valuable expertise to the business.
