The new Suzuki Across GLX Auto is a practical and stylish compact SUV that focuses on comfort, efficiency, and everyday usability rather than outright performance.

From the outside, the Across makes a strong first impression with its bold front grille, sharp body lines, and slim LED headlights, giving it a modern and confident appearance.

    Interior

Step inside, and the cabin feels surprisingly premium. Leather seats, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make the interior feel modern and intuitive. The 8-speaker Infinity by Harman sound system is another highlight, delivering impressive audio quality.

    Performance

Power comes from a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 12V mild-hybrid system and a six-speed automatic transmission. It produces 76kW and 137Nm of torque.

Around town, the Across is smooth, refined, and comfortable to drive. On the open road, however, it can feel underpowered, particularly when overtaking or tackling steep inclines.

    Fuel efficiency

One area where the Across really shines is fuel economy. During our time with the vehicle, we recorded an average fuel consumption of 6.0L/100km, making it an economical choice for everyday driving.

    Verdict

The Suzuki Across GLX Auto is a comfortable, well-equipped SUV that offers excellent fuel efficiency, modern technology, and a generous list of safety features. While its engine lacks the performance some buyers may be looking for, it remains a solid choice for those who value practicality, comfort, and low running costs.

Priced at R464,900, the Across GLX Auto offers good value for buyers who prioritise efficiency and everyday usability over outright performance.
