Hyundai Automotive South Africa has launched a facelifted version of its STARIA multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), bringing new styling, an upgraded interior and more advanced technology to the range.

The front end has been redesigned with new bumpers and grilles, aimed at improving both cooling and aerodynamics. The STARIA’s signature horizontal daytime running light has also been reworked, with the old three-part design now flowing into a single, cleaner light signature. New wheel designs and a revised rear bumper garnish round out the exterior changes.

“The Hyundai STARIA has always offered South African customers a different vision of what a multi-purpose vehicle can be,” said Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa. “This facelift strengthens that proposition, giving customers more technology, greater comfort and an even more distinctive vehicle without losing the versatility that makes the Hyundai STARIA so appealing.”

Inside, the biggest upgrade is the dashboard. Both the infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster have grown from 10.25 inches to 12.3 inches, paired with a redesigned centre console and dashboard layout. A new steering wheel and refreshed interior detailing add to the more upmarket feel.

Engine and performance

The South African-spec STARIA retains its 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine, producing 130 kW and 430 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Hyundai says the vehicle can achieve fuel consumption of around 8 L/100 km, a figure suited to business use, passenger transport and long-distance travel.

Every STARIA comes with a 7-year/200,000 km manufacturer’s warranty and 7-year/150,000 km roadside assistance. Service plans vary by model, with 7 years/105,000 km for the Luxury derivative and 6 years/90,000 km for the Executive and Elite models.
