Kia South Africa has updated its Sonet range with additional safety, technology and comfort features, while also introducing two new LS+ derivatives to the line-up.

The changes include the addition of a sunroof to the mid-spec EX, while the new LS+ derivatives bring six airbags further down the range. The flagship SX also gains a BOSE sound system.

The Sonet range has been restructured, with the new LS+ available with either a five-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission. The LX and EX derivatives also receive additional technology and comfort features, while the SX retains its existing driver-assistance systems and 10.25-inch HD display.

Engine and specification

All Sonet derivatives use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 85 kW and 144 Nm. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual gearbox and a CVT automatic transmission.

Ground clearance is rated at 190 mm, while luggage capacity stands at 385 litres.

Electronic Stability Control and Hill-start Assist Control remain standard across the range.

The EX now comes with a sunroof, while the SX adds a BOSE sound system. Other specification includes Kia’s styled alloy wheels, depending on the derivative.

Safety and warranty

The Sonet’s safety specification varies between derivatives, with the introduction of the LS+ bringing a six-airbag configuration further down the range.

The range also includes features such as stability and traction control, while the flagship SX retains its advanced driver-assistance systems.

Every Sonet is covered by Kia South Africa’s five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
