Volkswagen Group Africa has informed the National Consumer Commission about a potential issue affecting the handbrakes of certain Polo Vivo models produced within the past year.
According to the company, the issue has been identified in some vehicles built between February 2025 and February 2026. In these cases, the handbrake lever may not engage correctly or could disengage unexpectedly.
Volkswagen has reported the matter proactively as a safety precaution and has advised affected customers to have their vehicles inspected.
Owners of Polo Vivo models purchased during the affected period are encouraged to visit their nearest Volkswagen dealership, where technicians will inspect the vehicle and carry out any necessary repairs at no cost.
Volkswagen says it will contact owners of the affected vehicles directly. Customers who would like further information can also contact the Volkswagen Customer Interaction Centre on 0860 434 737 or via email at support@vwconnect.co.za.
