Mercedes-AMG has revealed updated versions of the GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ and GLS 63 4MATIC+, bringing a refreshed design, new technology, and further development of the brand’s iconic V8 engine.

At the heart of both models is a revised version of AMG’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Known internally as the M177 EVO, the engine has undergone several updates aimed at improving efficiency, emissions compliance, and overall responsiveness while retaining the character that AMG customers expect.

Power output remains unchanged at 450kW and 850Nm. AMG says the revised engine benefits from a flat-plane crankshaft, an updated fuel injection system, revised intake and exhaust components, and improved turbocharger hardware. Both models also feature a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with an integrated starter generator capable of contributing an additional 17kW and 205Nm when required.

Performance remains impressive for vehicles of this size. Mercedes-AMG claims the GLE 63 S can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds, while the larger GLS 63 completes the same sprint in 4.2 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 280km/h.

The updates are not limited to what sits under the bonnet. Both SUVs receive redesigned front ends featuring AMG’s signature Panamericana-style grille, larger cooling intakes, and revised LED lighting signatures. At the rear, twin exhaust outlets and a redesigned diffuser help distinguish the performance-focused models from their standard counterparts.

Inside, the focus remains on blending luxury with performance. Buyers can choose from a range of Nappa leather upholstery options, AMG-specific trim finishes, and various steering wheel designs. The latest MB.OS infotainment system also makes its debut, bringing updated graphics, performance displays, and AMG-specific information such as torque distribution, G-force readings, and detailed powertrain data.

Ride and handling have also received attention. The GLE 63 S and GLS 63 continue to use AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with adaptive damping, allowing drivers to switch between comfort-focused and sportier setups. The system can also raise the vehicle for light off-road use or lower it at higher speeds to improve stability and reduce aerodynamic drag.

AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL remains standard, using active electromechanical stabilisers to reduce body roll and improve handling. Combined with AMG’s fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system and an electronically controlled rear differential, the setup is designed to deliver improved agility while maintaining comfort and stability.

Mercedes-AMG has also expanded the available personalisation options through its MANUFAKTUR programme, offering a wide selection of exclusive paint colours, interior finishes, and trim packages.
