Mitsubishi shows Triton Absolute bakkie, but it’s still a concept

While we are waiting for Ford to bring its much-anticipated Ranger Raptor bakkie, seems like Mitsubishi is set to challenge the American car guru with a more rugged version of the Triton bakkie.

Called the Triton Absolute concept, the bakkie makes its debut at the 2019 Bangkok Motor Show this week and by the look of things, a production version is likely to follow suit.

As a manner of gauging public interest, Mitsubishi says the concept will be on display in various venues over the next 12 months and if things go well, it will go into production in more than a year from now.

There is no information on powertrain and further specific details but what we know, so far is that the Absolute sits 50 millimetres higher than the normal Triton. Mitsubishi has widened the tracks and also increased the suspension travel to improve the truck’s off-road capabilities.

On the outside, the Absolute features a rugged body kit that is finished in red and a hard tonneau cover at the back where there are two more handles. It also holds LED auxiliary lights on its roof and has bulging fenders to further enhance its aggressive stance.

Front and rear skid plates along with the blacked-out grille set it apart from the regular model, as does the carbon fibre tailgate.
