Fuel efficient Haval H6 Hybrid first drive impressions

The Haval H6 is one of the most popular models to hit the SA market. The H6 comes with a host of features which you’ll find in more expensive brands, but with Haval these features come with a very affordable package. The reasonable pricing and host of features does come with a catch, and that’s fuel consumption. Somehow the H6 is quite thirsty, but has the H6 HEV solved that issue? Here’s our first drive impression of the Haval H6 HEV.

    Styling

The H6 HEV distinguishes itself from the rest of the H6 range with a unique front grille, 19-inch black wheels, gloss black accents to the rear spoiler and a panoramic sunroof. The H6 is already a good-looking car and the features on the H6 HEV make it stand out even more.

    The interior

The cabin is solid with an exception of plasticky rear door panels, which aren’t a deal breaker considering the total package. As standard, you get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay an Android Auto, head-up display, keyless entry, a 360-Degree Camera and automatic parking. The H6 HEV is spacious, seating 5 quite comfortably.

    Impressive Powertrain

The powertrain in the Haval H6 HEV combines a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a 1.75kWh battery for a combined power output of 179kW/530Nm. After spending the day with the newcomer, we were quite impressed with the power and torque delivery. After driving spiritedly on launch, we managed to achieve an commendable 6.7 L/100km. Bear in mind Haval claims a combined fuel economy of 5.2L/100km which we will try out best to achieve when we get the car for a full review.

Overall, we enjoyed the newcomer’s spacious interior, power delivery, and comfortable ride. Pricing for the Haval H6 HEV start from R669,950.
