In a world increasingly dominated by SUVs, compact crossovers like the 2024 Ford Puma Titanium stand out for their blend of style and practicality. After stepping out of a more conventional hatchback, we jumped into the Puma and felt immediately at home without sacrificing the sporty drive we craved. The Puma Titanium boasts a peppy 1.0L EcoBoost engine, delivering an engaging 92kW and a solid 170Nm of torque. The 7-speed automatic transmission complements the engine perfectly, providing a seamless driving experience whether we were navigating city streets or taking a weekend trip. We were not jumping for joy on seeing the fuel efficiency hovering around 8.1l/100kms from a claimed 5.9L/100km. The upside is that the Puma never felt sluggish; instead, it delivered a lively performance that kept us entertained on every journey.

Handling is another area where the Puma shines. The suspension is finely tuned, striking a great balance between comfort and responsiveness. Corners are tackled with confidence, albeit with a bit of lean in when pushed, and the steering is light, making it easy to maneuver in tight spots—a true benefit for urban driving. Inside, the Puma Titanium surprises with its high-quality materials and thoughtful design. The cabin features descent execution with fairly average upholstery, some soft-touch surfaces, and a user-friendly layout. The digital instrument cluster is crisp and clear, providing all the necessary information at a glance. Connectivity is well-covered with standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, alongside a wireless charging pad that’s both convenient and practical.

Ford’s suite of safety features also impresses, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking, ensuring a safer drive in various conditions. Plus, the Puma is equipped with luxuries like heated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a high-quality sound system that enhance the overall experience. Our time with the Ford Puma Titanium confirmed that it’s a worthwhile contender in the compact crossover segment. With its spacious interior, advanced tech features, and stylish design, it caters to those who want a versatile vehicle that doesn’t compromise on driving enjoyment.

Starting at R519,900, the Ford Puma Titanium isn’t the last word in value, but its complete 4-year/120,000km service plan and a 4-year/120,000km warranty, with service intervals every 15,000km – makes it a “peace of mind” purchase. It’s clear that the Puma is ready to make its mark in a competitive market, appealing to both city dwellers and adventure enthusiasts alike.
