BMW Group Plant Rosslyn has reached an important production milestone with the completion of its 100,000th fourth-generation BMW X3. The achievement marks another chapter for the Pretoria-based facility, which remains a key part of BMW’s global manufacturing network.
The milestone vehicle is a Fire Red BMW X3 plug-in hybrid, built for export to Australia. Rosslyn holds a unique position within BMW’s global production system as it is the only plant manufacturing the X3 plug-in hybrid for international markets.
Located north of Pretoria, BMW Group Plant Rosslyn has played a major role in South Africa’s automotive industry for decades. Since the facility first opened, more than 1.8 million vehicles have been produced there, including the previous generation X3.
Behind the milestone is a large network of people and partners. Engineers, technicians and production teams at the plant work alongside suppliers, logistics partners and dealerships to ensure the vehicles meet BMW’s global quality standards.
According to Danny Bester, Director of BMW Group Plant Rosslyn, the milestone reflects the dedication of the workforce behind the production line.
“Producing 100,000 fourth-generation BMW X3 vehicles is a significant moment for the plant and for the people who build them,” he said. “Each vehicle represents the skill, commitment and pride of our associates.”
The plant also plays a role in developing technical skills locally. Apprentices, trainees and graduate engineers gain practical experience within the production environment, contributing to the development of future engineering and manufacturing talent in South Africa.
While the milestone highlights the success of the current production programme, work at the Rosslyn plant continues as teams remain focused on maintaining the quality and precision expected from vehicles carrying the BMW badge.
