Suzuki Auto South Africa prepares Swift line-up for 2026 Simola Hillclimb

Suzuki Auto South Africa has confirmed its continued involvement in the Simola Hillclimb, with a new three-year sponsorship deal running from 2026 to 2028.

The annual event, which takes place in Knysna from 30 April to 3 May, has grown into one of the country’s most recognised motorsport gatherings. What started in 2009 with a small entry list and a few thousand spectators now attracts over 20,000 attendees, along with international competitors and a global livestream audience.

For 2026, Suzuki will once again take part in the King of the Hill challenge, fielding four identical Suzuki Swift GL+ models. Behind the wheel will be a mix of local motoring media, including Avon Middleton, Samuel Da Fonseca, Ziphorah Masethe and Girlie Lukhele.

The Swift’s lightweight setup plays a key role here. Weighing just 917kg and powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 60kW and 112Nm, the hatchback relies more on agility and momentum than outright power on the tight and technical hillclimb course.

Outside of the four-wheel action, Suzuki will also run demonstration laps with its Hayabusa Ultimate Sportbike. The motorcycle, producing 140kW and capable of speeds up to 299km/h, will be ridden by Suzuki Richards Bay Dealer Principal, Jaco Viviers.

The participating vehicles and drivers are also expected to feature in the pre-event parade at the Knysna Waterfront on 1 May, which traditionally draws crowds ahead of the main event.

Suzuki has been involved with the Simola Hillclimb since 2021, and this new agreement confirms its presence at the event for the next few years.
