Mercedes-Benz South Africa has launched the new CLA 200, which is expected to arrive at authorised retailers from 12 June. The model combines premium design, advanced technology, and improved efficiency in a compact sedan package.

At first glance, the CLA 200 stands out with its sporty and elegant design. The front grille features Mercedes-Benz’s signature chrome star pattern, while the distinctive LED light signatures at the front and rear enhance its modern appearance. A panoramic glass roof comes standard, contributing to a more spacious feel inside the cabin.

Under the bonnet, the CLA 200 introduces a new 48-volt hybrid system. A 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine works alongside an integrated electric motor housed within the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Together, the system produces 120kW and 250Nm, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.0 seconds. Mercedes-Benz claims combined fuel consumption of 5.4L/100km.

Inside, Mercedes-Benz has adopted a minimalist design approach. The highlight is the new MBUX Superscreen, which combines a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14-inch central touchscreen.

One of the key innovations is the fourth-generation MBUX infotainment system. Powered by artificial intelligence from Microsoft and Google, the MBUX Virtual Assistant can engage in natural conversations, understand context, and provide intelligent responses. The system also integrates Google Maps and Google Gemini technology for navigation, route planning, and point-of-interest searches.

Priced at R937,000, the new Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 enters the premium compact sedan segment, where it will compete with rivals such as the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

The price includes a 5-year/100,000km Service and Maintenance Plan, including VAT but excluding CO₂ tax.
