MG ZS Pro 1.5T Luxury strengthens MG’s value proposition

The MG ZS Pro 1.5T Luxury is where the ZS range finally starts to feel complete.

Visually, it’s still one of MG’s strongest offerings. The design is clean, slightly upscale, and gives off that “I’m worth more than I cost” energy. It fits neatly into the compact SUV segment without trying too hard.

The big upgrade here is the turbocharged 1.5-litre engine, producing 125kW and 275Nm. Compared to the naturally aspirated version, this is a noticeable improvement. Acceleration is more confident, overtaking is easier, and overall drivability feels far less strained.

It’s still not a performance SUV, and while it might worry some hatchbacks, it never feels underpowered. That makes a big difference in everyday driving.

Inside, MG continues to overdeliver for the price. Large infotainment displays, a digital instrument cluster, and a panoramic sunroof create a feature-rich environment that feels more premium than the price tag suggests.

On the road, the MG ZS Pro 1.5T Luxury prioritises comfort. The ride is smooth, the cabin is reasonably quiet, and it’s an easy vehicle to live with on a daily basis. Push it hard, and it leans more towards comfort than sportiness, but that’s clearly the intention.

At R431,500, the MG ZS Pro 1.5T Luxury is the version that makes the most sense. It retains the ZS’s strong value proposition while adding the one thing it was missing: usable performance without the feeling of buyer’s remorse.
