Hyundai Automotive South Africa has introduced the new Exter Premium 1.2 Cargo, a compact panel van aimed at small businesses, entrepreneurs and fleet operators looking for an affordable and practical delivery vehicle.

Based on the Hyundai Exter SUV, the Cargo is configured as a five-door, two-seater panel van, with the rear passenger area replaced by a flat, enclosed load compartment. Its compact dimensions are intended to make it easy to manoeuvre in urban areas, while increased ground clearance gives it added versatility on gravel and rougher roads.

Powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine

The Exter Cargo is powered by a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 61 kW and 114 Nm.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a manual transmission, with Hyundai claiming average fuel consumption of 5.7 L/100 km.

According to Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, the Exter Cargo is aimed at businesses that need a vehicle that is affordable to purchase and economical to operate.

“Its compact dimensions make it easy to manoeuvre in urban environments, while the additional ground clearance gives it an advantage when the working day takes customers onto rougher roads,” said Anderson.

    Practical and well equipped

Despite its focus on commercial use, the Exter Cargo comes with a range of standard equipment. This includes air conditioning, electric windows, Bluetooth connectivity, USB connectivity and remote central locking.

Safety features include six airbags, ABS and a tyre-pressure monitoring system.

The Cargo specification also offers a slight payload advantage over the passenger version. As it is homologated as a light commercial vehicle, qualifying business customers can also benefit from VAT reclaimability.

    Fleet support

Hyundai says fleet customers will also benefit from dedicated labour rates and parts discounts, which are automatically applied when a fleet vehicle is booked into one of its dealerships.

The company also highlights its parts availability, with a first-time parts-pick rate of more than 90%. Overnight delivery supports Hyundai’s dealer network of more than 100 outlets across Southern Africa.

    Hyundai Exter Cargo price

The Hyundai Exter Premium 1.2 Cargo is priced at R247,392 excluding VAT, or R284,500 including VAT.
