BMW has expanded the M2 range with the introduction of the new M2 M xDrive, bringing all-wheel drive to the compact performance coupe for the first time.

The new model combines BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system with an Active M Differential to improve traction and stability, particularly during hard acceleration and in low-grip conditions.

Power comes from a 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine featuring BMW’s M Ignite pre-chamber combustion technology. The engine is paired with an M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic.

BMW claims the M2 M xDrive can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds, making it 0.3 seconds quicker than the rear-wheel-drive version. The car reaches 200km/h from a standstill in 12.8 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h, although this increases to 285km/h when equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package.

The M2 M xDrive rides on 19-inch alloy wheels at the front and 20-inch alloy wheels at the rear. BMW will also offer the M2 with a new BMW Individual Borusan Turkish Blue paint finish for the first time.

According to Alexander Karajlovic, Vice President for Development at BMW M GmbH, the addition of M xDrive is intended to improve acceleration, stability, and control while maintaining the M2’s driver-focused character.
