2026 Kia Seltos GT-Line S First Drive: Sharper, smarter and more refined

Kia’s all-new second-generation Seltos has arrived in South Africa, and our first drive of the flagship GT-Line S around Cape Town suggests this is a major step up from its predecessor.

The new Seltos gets a sharper, more premium design, highlighted by Kia’s Star Map LED lighting, flush door handles and a full-width rear light signature.

Inside, the cabin is a much more impressive place to be. The GT-Line S features a panoramic dual-screen setup, sporty and comfortable seats, improved materials and plenty of modern technology. There’s also generous rear space and a 447-litre boot, keeping it practical for family use.

Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 119 kW and 253 Nm, paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission. It offers a responsive drive, with strong initial acceleration and enough mid-range torque to make overtaking feel effortless.

The gearbox is the only slight disappointment, with some hesitation and occasional jerkiness in slow-moving traffic. Once up to speed, however, it becomes considerably smoother.

With advanced safety features, wireless smartphone connectivity, a panoramic sunroof and a more premium interior, the new Seltos makes a strong first impression.

    First-drive verdict

The 2026 Seltos GT-Line S is sharper, smarter and more refined, with the turbocharged engine adding plenty of character. It’s a convincing new contender in South Africa’s competitive family SUV market.
